Live chat for WordPress, with an official plugin
Install the HTchat plugin, click Connect, approve the site in your HTchat account and the chat widget goes live. Conversations stay in HTchat, not in your WordPress database.
How the connection works
The plugin sends you to HTchat to approve the site. Approval returns a one-time code that the plugin swaps for a revocable site token. No HTchat password is ever stored in WordPress, and you can disconnect from either side.
What the plugin does — and doesn't
The plugin loads the widget, lets you switch it on or off, and shows the connection status. Conversations, contacts and settings live in HTchat, which keeps your WordPress database lean and your chat history available even if you rebuild the site.
Install on WordPress
- 01Sign in to HTchat and download the plugin from Settings → Installation.
- 02In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and upload the ZIP.
- 03Activate HTchat and click Connect to HTchat.
- 04Approve the site in HTchat; you're returned to WordPress with chat switched on.
Common questions
- Can I install without the plugin?
- Yes. You can paste the snippet with any header/footer code plugin instead.
- What happens if I uninstall the plugin?
